Happy Veterans Day

I'm proud to have served my country and would like to say Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans out there. Can you guess which branch of the military I was in? :-)

Dating Service

I'm sorry but I just couldn't pass this up. I'm still laughing.

Careful of That Thanksgiving Turkey

Thanksgiving is next month. Some like to hunt their turkey and some people raise turkeys and choose their meal when Thanksgiving comes around.

There's a lot to be said about getting your turkey at the grocery store instead.

The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe

Ironically this morning I just published a new book retelling 3 of Edgar Allan Poe's Most Famous Stories. I retold them using the same story but making the language more modernized so it was easier to read.

Lo and behold right after that was done I found out that some of Poe's stories had actually been adapted for the comics a long time ago. I enhanced this page. The Black Cat was one of his best. Trying to decide what to do next with these comics.

Heckle and Jeckle

These are the two funniest magpies ever. I'm surprised they are not on Boomerang TV. They got into a lot of mischief which, I guess, magpies do.

Classic Comic Books and Comic Strips

I'm kind of excited. Just published this new book on classic comic books and classic comic strips. This may be the first of a new series.

The classic comics have been forgotten, and it's a shame. There are some terrific ones out there that deserve to make their way back into the mainstream. Hopefully this helps renew the interest.

Bullwinkle Mother Moose Nursery Poems

Rocky and Bullwinkle was a popular cartoon show and I just recently discovered that they were featured in comic books. I thought it might be cool to bring them back into the living room so kids could enjoy this hilarious duo.

Some Things Never Change

This comic is from the 1940's and is just as applicable today as it was back then.

The Clutching Hand

Take a look at this comic book cover from 1954. I mean tell me this doesn't make you want to read the story. Unless you don't like scary storied, of course.

Arthritis

As Mr. Mackey would say "Arthriris is bad, m'kay?"

Careful Where You Step

Remember the old saying "Step on a crack you break your mother's back?" Apparently that pertains to the world of stickmen as well.

StickMan Hiding

Sometimes there are advantages to being a stickman.

How to Cut Your Hair Comic

I came across The Culture Corner while nosing around at Cartoon Plus. These comics, and there are a number of them, are definitely silly humor but I couldn't help but chuckle. I'm trying to enhance them and will be adding more of them along the way.

By the way, the last clip here reminds me of hair plugs.

Are Other Planets Inhabited

Don't you just feel sometimes like it's ludicrous to think there is not another planet (planets) out there who have life on them? I mean whether we've heard from them or not, I just have to believe we are not alone in this universe.

Give Me a Hand

You never know what these little stickman guys will do. Seems this kid took his dad literally.

Superman

Sorry. When I was checking through Comic Book Plus for some of the older comic books, my eyes popped out when I saw Superman blazing in large letters. The comic book came out in 1941 so it was confusion.

Turns out this is not the Superman we think of. This guys so called super powers is his brain. Yep, a super brain.

Maximo was his name and he needed to stop a dam from breaking and . . . you get the picture. So he used his brain. I know, right? I'd rather see the real Superman fly into action and stop the disaster.

It was a tiny little book and not like the comic books we're used to. I had to let you see it.

Out of Whack

You know there are just some days when you don't feel like yourself.

You're Leaving Me Like This?

Sometimes I get to feeling a little goofy when drawing these stickmen. This little guy doesn't seem too happy with me. What are ya gonna do?

Tom Sawyer

Many classic stories were actually turned into comic books. Tom Sawyer is one of those classics. I thought this introduction showed some very interesting facts about Mark Twain and his characters. Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn certainly became household names back in those days.

Click the picture and enlarge it so you can easily read the facts.

Got Your Back

A true friend will always have your back. Seems this might be even more important in the world of stickmen.

Bringing Up Father

Bringing Up Father is a classic comic from way, way, way long ago. In fact so long ago that I can say it's before my time. :-)

The comic strip is still funny today if you keep in mind that the scripts are dated. Here's a good example. Jiggs has a good point.

Acting Macho

What men will do to impress a woman, This guy is having a heck of a time trying to carry his much younger girlfriend. Will he make it?

The Three Stooges

I grew up with the 3 Stooges and they were always a favorite among us guys. Girls didn't seem to like them and that seems to be the same case today.

I guess all that hitting and poking is a guy thing.

It's not quite the same thing reading about their escapades in the comic books but it's still comical.

StickMan Cartoons

I'm working on a new idea. Personally I think stickmen drawings can be as funny as pretty much anything. I thought they would be easy to draw but to make them look good, it takes some practice. So I'm using Stick Sketch School to make these stick people look more interesting.

Here's the first drawing, which is just a sample. Any comments?

Thor - God of Thunder

I was surprised to come across this comic book of Thor. Looking at the cover, I was even more surprised to see the inside pages were. I believe, written in Spanish. In any event, this is a pretty cool rendition of Thor.

Egbert

I'm pretty sure this is not going to end well.

Just Playing Around

So I have a new drawing program I'm playing around with and somehow I came up with this. I want to make a kid's picture book that takes a light hearted look at history. I'm betting having comics like this in it might make a few parents mad? Probably need to do something like this for teenagers.

Romance in Comic Books

I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the many genres that appeared in comic books when comic books were hugely popular. I was surprised to see so many different comic books that featured romance.

Growing up and reading comic books, I read funny stories and cowboys and horror and plenty of other comic books but never any in romance. Not surprising. After seeing how popular romantic comic book stories were, and with romance being so popular in fiction books, I wonder if there would be room for old romance comic books being brought back to life?

Any thoughts?

Pinterest - Comics and Cartoons

If comics and cartoons are your thing, and I'm kinda thinking you wouldn't be here if they weren't, drop over and follow me at Pinterest.

The Fly

OK. This obviously isn't The Fly you might be thinking of. You know, the one where a man gets into a transport chamber and there's a fly inside. He transports and his head transfers to the fly and the fly head transfers to body. A classic horror story.

This is the cover of an old comic book and while I'm guessing this picture was supposed to scare, it's pretty comical. I might try to draw this little guy. He might make a super hero.

Nah. Flies are gross.
